Sonoma Valley Hospital CEO Search Committee Formed

The Board of Directors of the Sonoma Valley Health Care District has selected a search committee to recruit a new chief executive officer for Sonoma Valley Hospital to succeed CEO Carl Gerlach, who will resign at the end of June.
The committee will consist of two SVHCD board members, one SVH physician, one nurse/administrator and one community member. The board members are: Board Chair Bill Boerum and Second Vice Chair Madolyn Agrimonti. The three other members are: Dr. Brian Sebastian, president of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee; Mary Kelly, Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Operating Officer of the Hospital; and Kevin Carruth, Vice Chair of the District’s Citizens Bond Oversight Committee.

Bill Boerum expressed pleasure at the SVH community support for the effort. “Madolyn and I are very encouraged by the willingness of these very busy people to engage in this critically important effort for our Hospital. Dr. Sebastian has the respect of his peer physicians and plays an important role in our effort to recruit more doctors to the Valley. Mary Kelly brings to the task the perspective of a long career in nursing and hospital administration. Kevin Carruth, in addition to his CBOC involvement, is a long-time and accomplished consultant on major capital projects to various government entities.”

Boerum said the search committee will meet “within a week” to begin its work. This will initially include identifying the professional qualifications and personal characteristics sought in a new CEO as well as determining the resources needed to conduct the search. The search committee will conduct a series of candidate interviews and then make a recommendation to the Board of Directors, who will make the final decision. Boerum said an executive recruiter will likely be engaged to conduct the search.

On the agenda for the next SVHCD board meeting, February 4, will be an opportunity for the public to offer their suggestions for the qualities that should be sought in a new CEO.
