The JPA is the first step in creating a “regional” entity to pool resources for greater efficiency, to present a larger client base for physicians, and to negotiate better reimbursement rates from insurers. The JPA is exploring ways to share management and clinical services between hospitals to create efficiencies.

The JPA recently expanded its membership, admitting the Southern Humboldt Healthcare District, with its hospital, medical clinic and Health Center in Garberville as full members.  This adds a fifth hospital and a third county to the nonprofit association, which is dedicated to preserving  local access to quality health services with local accountability.
